‘Megan Leavey’ Trailer: A War Hero and Her Military Dog

If you’re a fan of dogs or war hero films, ‘Megan Leavey’ looks like a film for you. It’ll give us a sobering and deeper look at dogs in the military and the special bond between canine and human.

 

Based on real events and the true story behind the life of young female marine corporal, Megan Leavey and her military, bomb sniffing, combat dog, Rex, form an incredible bond which leads to successfully completing many missions in Iraq, until they are both injured from a bomb, and Leavey is sent home.

 

The biographical drama continues as she fights bureaucratic red tape in order to get Rex discharged and is able to adopt her canine companion.

 

 

This movie looks like it’ll be a tear jerker, that plays on our emotions, watching this incredible bond form between best friends, and shows us what true loyalty is.

 

This true story is based on the actual US Marine corporal, Megan Leavey and the true events surrounding her as a military police K9 handler. The pair served together in Iraq in 2005 and 2006 where they were both injured from an explosion. The two received the Purple Heart Medal and Achievement medal from the Navy and Marine Corps.

 

The film directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite stars Kate Mara as Megan Leavey, as well as Edie Falco, Ramón Rodríguez, and Tom Felton. You’ll also recognize Common, who plays Sergeant Gunney Massey. Megan Leavey will be in theaters on June 9 2017.
